A Day on the Farm: Learning, Playing, and Growing at Little Farmers
Nestled in the heart of nature in Vila do Bispo Portugal, Little Farmers is more than just a childcare program—it’s a place where curiosity blooms, friendships grow, and unforgettable memories are made. Every day on our farm is a chance for children to embark on an adventure, surrounded by animals, open spaces, and the warmth of a caring community.
Four years ago, I embarked on a journey to bring this project to life, pouring my heart and soul into every step. My academic background is in educational science, which I studied in Germany, coupled with hands-on experience working with children in schools and kindergartens. After completing my studies, I decided to travel, and it was during this time that I fell in love with Portugal—the stunning nature, the ocean, and the surf.
After spending six years working in tourism, I realized it was time to follow my true passion and lifelong dream: working with children again. This is how Little Adventurers was born.
Every day with children is a new challenge, but my greatest motivation comes from knowing I can plant seeds that help them grow into healthy, confident, and happy individuals. I don’t adhere to any specific pedagogical approach; instead, I’ve created my own unique blend, shaped by my experiences. My focus is on ensuring that every child feels loved, secure, and free to express themselves.
Our space is surrounded by nature, and we spend much of our time outdoors. We keep our groups small, with a maximum of eight children, creating a warm, familiar atmosphere. With the support of a growing team—always two educators per group—we can truly focus on each child as an individual. This intimate setting allows me to understand their unique needs and personalities, and provide them with the guidance and encouragement they need to thrive.

Morning: Learning Through Play
On the farm, learning is hands-on, interactive, and always engaging. Our activities are designed to foster creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork. We start our morning in our little cozy house at the farm. Children can arrive safely.
Here’s how our mornings often looks like:
Arts and crafts inspired by nature: Creating leaf collages, painting animal portraits, or making bird feeders.
Morning circle: Every morning we meet in a circle together. We breathe, sing and use our instruments. We sing songs in english, german and portuguese.
Breakfast:
This blend of structure and free play helps children feel both supported and empowered to explore the world around them.
Midday: Welcoming the Day with Nature
The day continues with excitement and energy as little adventurers arrive, ready to explore.
Feeding the cats and donkeys: Children learn responsibility as they help care for our farm friends.
A stroll through the fields: Breathing in the fresh air, children connect with the rhythms of nature.
These simple tasks are more than just fun—they teach children empathy, patience, and the value of nurturing living things.
Afternoon: Adventures Big and Small
As the day winds down, our little adventurers have time for open exploration and bonding with their peers.
Farm-wide treasure hunts: These exciting challenges encourage problem-solving and teamwork.
Reflecting on the day: Before heading home, we gather to talk about what we learned, share favorite moments, and celebrate the little wins. We sing a little goodbye song.
These rituals create a sense of community and help children build confidence in expressing themselves.
