Little Farmers

Our Children are the future of our planet. What we teach them now will determine what its going to become.

I believe each child is a unique “being” that learns and sprouts in creative settings, where they can embrace ideas and reveal their unlimited potential.

Children should develop freely in nature, playing and discovering together.

Grow. Feed. Educate. Play. Learn

“Each child will have a little seed of The Farm inside of them from their visit—to nurture, feed, share & watch grow into something much bigger!”

I created a daily project for children aged 2-5 years that take each child on an organic learning journey through natures classroom as it grows and feed us. Children can come together, play, be creative, learn and feel safe in a natural and familiar environment. Our project is daily from 9-13 pm at our Farm in Vila do Bispo, Portugal. The program includes indoor and outdoor play and learning.

Each day we focus on the interests and needs of the children. Activities which include art, sensory play, books, different toys and lots of exploring in nature are part  of our program. At our Farm children are supported to learn the skills involved in positive interactions within each other, nature and animals.

Our values

  • Children learn how to express their feelings, desires, and thoughts.
  • Children learn how to listen to others.
  • Children learn how to decipher other’s feelings and intent.
  • Children learn to experience empathy.
  • Children learn to recognize and expect respect.
  • Children learn to understand and meet expectations of group behavior.
  • Children learn self-acceptance and self-confidence.
  • Children learn in an natural environment and learn to play outdoor in all weather conditions.

We believe that every child has the curiosity to learn, to develop creatively and to develop self-confidence. With Little Farmers we want to give parents tools and ideas to make it easier for them to achieve exactly that for their children.

Information

Our project

Little Farmers is a “non-academic” program. Instead, we are focusing on creating a rich and memorable childhood through good and beautiful experiences. We will be surrounding the child with rich oral language through songs, verses, and stories. We will not be covering the alphabet or teaching children to read or write. The main language is in English. But we are reading books and singing songs in Portuguese and German as well.

Little Farmers is not following any specific direction. I have created my own vision which includes Montessori and Walldorf.  But we do not consider ourselves a “strictly” Waldorf program, and there will be portions of our program that do not adhere to typical Waldorf curriculums or philosophies, and we will remain flexible to Waldorf methods at our own discretion.

For us it is important that we work in a holistic and mindful way with the children.

We focus on:

  • awareness and attention to the present moment
  • intentionality and understanding of behavior
  • attitude — nonjudgmental, compassionate, accepting — in response

Remember

Every child should be supported to build a foundation within themselves so full of self-worth, creativity, trust and connection to nature that they can create a life that feels not like a constant trial, but like a wondrous garden full of limitless Imagination and endless potential.

What to Expect

Drop off is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 09-13. We have mostly small groups (3-8 children). After arriving the children can play free. Than we have a little morning circle, where we sing and play instruments. Than we have breakfast together. After some food and chats we go outside, feed our animals, play free, paint and learn. Than we usually go back inside, start cleaning up together and make a circle to say goodbye.
